Hormonoterapia in prostate pathologies
The hormones are chemical substances produced by some glands of the organism that circulate around the sanguineous torrent. The hormonoterapia is the hormone use with the purpose of stopping the growth of the cancerous cells. The masculine hormones (in special the testosterone) can stimulate the growth of prostate tumors. With the purpose of stopping this growth to feminine hormones or medicines can be administered that reduce the production of masculine hormones.
The drugs used in veterinary medicine include:
* Estrogens (dietilbestrol): they are hormones that produce the feminine sexual characteristics, in the case of administration in a male prevents that the testicles produce testosterone. Nevertheless, the estrogens rare time are used in the treatment of the cancer of prostate due to the risk of dangerous indirect effect.
* The agonists of the liberating hormone of the luteinizante hormone (LH) also can prevent that the testicles produce testosterone. Some examples are leuprolide, goserelín and buserelín.
* The antiandrogens can block the action of the androgens (hormones that produce the masculine sexual characteristics). Two examples are flutamida and the bicalutamida one.
* Inhibitors of reductasa (finasteride).
* The drugs that can prevent that the suprarrenales glands produce androgens include to ketoconazol and the aminoglutetimida one.
