infectious Peritonitis
It is caused by a virus, it is a very serious disease and until the incurable moment, it is distributed anywhere in the world and it affected domestic and wild felines.
It is transmitted by buccal secretions and respiratory, lees and possibly, it tinkles it, one pronounces most frequently when there are close contact in colonies or deposits of cats.
It affects with more intensity to cats between the 6 months and five years of age, the previous infection by feline leukemia and the virus of the feline immunodeficiency it favors the appearance of this disease.
The clinical signs are confused nor locatable like fever, lack of appetite, loss of weight, vomit, diarrea, dehydration and pallor (anemia).
Conform as it advances the disease progress the nonspecific signs and exists a called form ?humid? that characterizes by spills in the corporal cavities and another called manifestation ?dry? where it exists inflammation and nodules in the affected organs.
The effective treatment does not exist at the moment for the cure of this serious disease, there are no good results to prolong the life or to induce the remission of the symptoms. Once the cat develops the pathology due to the PIF, the disease is mortal almost always, independently of the treatment.
For the prevention it at the moment exists a intranasal vaccine, nonavailable in our country (Argentina) from year 1991, has some collateral effects like estornudos and nasal secretions.
The prophylaxis in deposit or places very populated with cats, is recommended to isolate the cats with PIF signs, to control the feline leukemia by means of vaccinations and to only allow to enter totally healthy new cats.
The overpopulation is due to maintain conditions basic of hygiene, good nutrition and to avoid.
