feline Hipertiroidismo
It is a disease characterized by an excess of tiroideas hormone production by the gland thyroid and an increase of these hormones in the sanguineous circulation (they are possible to be measured and to be diagnosed). It is a very frequent endócrina disease of the cat as the hipotiroidismo is it in the dog.
The habitual cause is the presence of a bilateral tiroideo functional adenoma or unilateral although the immunological factors also estan involved. Most of clinical signs they take place by the sobrestimulation of general the metabolic processes, for which the tiroideas hormones are responsible since they are catabolic hormones. It normally affects greater cats of 5 years. The presentation of the disease can be slight or burdens and the clinical picture is very variable according to what organs are affected and what clinical signs predominate on the others.
The most frequent plus signs are:
* Thinning (to weigh of polifagia)
* Hiperactividad
* Polifagia (much hunger)
* Tachycardia
* PU/PD (much thirst and much tinkle)
* diarrea chronicle: hiperperistaltismo
* vomits: they take place by the sobreingestion
* cardiac blowing: (secondary cardiomiopatía that habitually is hipertrófica and in some occasions expanded)
* less frequent others: exoftalmia, anorexy, muscular weakness, depression, taquipnea, tremors and disnea.
At the diagnosis it is arrived with the dosaje of tiroideas hormones T3 and T4
The prognosis is good after surgical extirpation but it will have to stay with suplementación of tiroideas hormones of by life.
They also exist protocols with medication tiroidea antihormone (propiluracilo) but have many secunadrios effects (ej. Leucopenias)
